To quote a fashionista, “Accessories are like vitamins to fashion and as such you should use them liberally”. Jyoti Balani tells you exactly what accessories you should use liberally this season
This season it is all about practicality—accessories that don’t just look great but can be used daily. The colour palette is bold and intense featuring dark emerald, fuchsia, golden yellow, peacock, lobster orange and hibiscus red. Sizes are more about functionality and everyday use.
Functionality with femininity
Gucci unveiled the GG Marmont handbag, a new look for the coming season. A design inspired by a buckle that was used by Gucci in the ’70s, its distinctive GG detail is one of the house’s strongest and most recognisable symbols. But though the roots of this bag lie in the house archives, the twenty-first century version of the GG Marmont is decidedly synonymous with the aesthetic world of Creative Director Alessandro Michele.
In this new version, the GG motif appears as the main ornament. The new handbag is an evolution of the original style featuring softer construction. Besides the fact that this stunning creation comes in a myriad of colours, materials and styles; the GG Marmont has been designed with practicality in mind and depending on the model in question, features zippered or open pockets inside.
The Gambade double ring and necklace from Hermes has the house’s symbols delicately carved on a thin jaseron chain sprinkled with diamonds: clou de selle, H diamant and maillons d’arpenteur dance to the rhythm of the body’s movements. This new exquisite line is composed of a short and long necklace, rings and earrings and has been created for everyday wear.
The Hermes Octogone bag with its structured silhouette, shaped like an octogonal box with rounded corners, and super simple flap closure make it the perfect partner for everyday use.
The metallic elements—notably the GG motif on the GG Marmont handbag itself—are in antiqued gold, and there is a ‘quilted’ heart detail or GG design on the backs of some of the chevron-quilted bags. For the shoulder bags the closure is a pin with a side button, while the totes have a hidden magnetic closure and the camera bags a zip closure.
The models of the GG Marmont range from the shoulder bags in three sizes to tote bags and camera cases. All come with brass chain shoulder straps featuring a leather detail.
Chain handle bags that add a bit of glamour to an otherwise boring dress are in this season. Attached totwo metal rings, the handle of the new Col Roulé 25 Hermes bag is reminiscent of a horse tack.
The Hermes Bâton de Craie clutch is inspired by a model from the 1920s. A clas
p-jewel, a simple stick of metal, horn or stone with a clean and precise design, slipped through a leather loop, punctuates the refined form of this bag, a play of rounded curves and pure lines.
The best things in life are small
This season the sizes of accessories have been minimised. Earrings and necklaces are dainty little pieces that add elegance to a look.
Mini bags, like Gucci’s new GG Marmont, are just perfect for everything that one actually needs to carry.
“Bracelets and pendants become smaller and finer so that one can wear these pieces during the day as well as in the evening for an outing. In particular pendants are worn lower again, on a thin chain. The designs are more figurative and joyful—playing with the fantasy and the imagination,” says Andre Meyerhans, Managing Director, Mario Uboldi Jewelry Art.
Alphabets are in
Whether it is bags or jewellery, alphabets are seen everywhere. A new version of the Hermès Évelyne bag features polished raw edges and a structure showcasing saddler know-how.
True to its equestrian roots it is inspired by grooming bags, it keeps its metal snap hooks and adjustable strap, has no lining, and is decorated with a hot-stamped diamond H crest.
Colour my palette
Hidesign has just launched its mini collection of bags in a riot of colours such as lobster orange, green, blue, marsala, etc.
The Gucci colour palette includes a multitude of hues: black, mystic white, hibiscus red, pink intense, yellow, fuchsia, peacock and dark emerald. There are also models using a combination of colours, notably black and mystic white.
The Hermès Gambade collection stands out because of the rose gold colour and consists of a ring, double ring and a necklace. “When it comes to colours this season, the focus is more on yellow and white gold, with rose gold often used in combination. In terms of stones, aquamarine (fresh-light blue) and golden yellows in combination with off-white (pearl) and warm blacks are trending. The black and white can also be contrasted with a bright, punctual red,” reveals Andre Meyerhans.
The Slim d’Hermès watch returns to the basics of watch making, welcoming a new women’s model featuring a Hermès Manufacture H1950 ultra-thin movement, and a steel case illuminated by anopaline silvered dial that also comes in a version set with 66 white diamonds. This model is fitted with an alligator strap in radiant colours.
On the other hand, the Hermès Electrique scarf 90 in silk twill evokes a circus big top or the magic of Broadway. Exuberant letters form the Hermès name in lights and it is designed by Dimitri Rybaltchenko.
The Hermès Au Bout du Monde scarf 90 in silk twill is inspired by Le Pêcheur à la Laïta, a painting by Paul Sérusier, co-founder of the Nabis movement in the late 19th century. This motif represents a mysterious valley at sunset or sunrise and is designed by Antoine Carbonne.
Figurative designs and motifs
The Hermès Astrologie Pois maxi-twilly scarf cut in silk twill designed by Bali Barret, Philippe Mouquet, Françoise Faconnet and Henri d’Origny plays the masculine-feminine card with a shortened length and motifs from the scarf and tie universes.
“With the Uboldi charms, we in particular look into the pendants or charms that have more figurative designs and joyful motives that inspire the imagination. Our chains become longer to evoke a more légère/casual-relaxed look. We have also introduced the multiple charm chain which separates the charms along the entire chain,” says Andre Meyerhans.
