Harmony in Healthcare

Tina Ambani has traversed the altruistic landscape from Harmony for Silvers Foundation to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani
Hospital creating a world class facility. Meet the woman who displays a high degree of selfconfidence refined by humility

She is a woman in harmony with herself. When you talk to her, you get the feeling you are talking to a woman who has found herself, not in the sense of not going any further but in the sense of being sure about what she wants to do. It is this poise, this sense of being comfortable with herself that has seen her play many roles with ease. Perhaps she feels no compulsive need to prove anything to anyone, but demonstrate what can be achieved by commitment and willingness to work with others.

It is almost as if she is perfectly happy being a medium through which others can accomplish what they seek, all resulting in a greater good.

Frank and Forthright

People with good character do not show off. They do not need embellishments because their strength is their character. Tina, from India’s famous business family, wears the Ambani crown with disarming charm.

The 'Ambani bahu' title involves a lot of responsibilities. What does it mean to you?
As women, we all have responsibilities. Obviously being married to an Ambani has a different set of responsibilities. It is important to recognise that it also brings with it a lot of humility. You are at that level of society, and you realise that people look up to you, follow you, get inspiration from you. They probably hate you and love you as well. So you need to behave in a manner and conduct yourself in a way that befits the family you have married into.

How would you describe your husband?
What can I say about Anil? I am constantly learning from what he does. He is one of the most articulate persons I know. He thinks about everything and everyone. He runs such a big setup and yet thinks of everyone in that setup. You can compare him to a king who has to think about not just the foot soldiers but the general who runs his army too.

Investor’s Delight

In 2008, when the IPOs of most companies were not successful, Dilip Parekh, Director, Vishal Information Technologies Ltd (VITL), helped investors double their money in just six months. With offices in Dubai, Singapore, Chennai, he now aims to touch a turnover of Rs 400-450 crores by 2012.

My father taught me from childhood that today is better than yesterday and tomorrow will be better than today. I work on that principle. We can not change destiny but making your life cheerful is in our own hands,” states Dilip Parekh, Director, Vishal Information Technologies Ltd (VITL), philosophically. His parents, father Chandulal, who was the franchisee of Gold Spot and later Shringar Kumkum, and mother Ramalakshmi had a great influence on his life, encouraging him in everything he did. Parekh is deeply grateful to the role his parents have played in his life and has recently erected a magnificent temple in his mother’s name in the picturesque town of Madangadh.

Born in Doraji near Rajkot, Parekh did his BSc in Mumbai and then went on to acquire an LLB degree. He has three decades of business experience in various fields of trading, the manufacturing of dyes and chemicals and the marketing of yarn, computer hardware, textiles, diamonds and even financial services. As a Director of VITL he handles the business administration and finance of the company. What makes VITL so successful is its product and service mix? In 2008, 33 out of 37 companies that went in for an IPO did not deliver; but VITL in six months helped investors double their money from Rs 150 to Rs 301.35.

Men Bling Too

Blame it on Beckham! Taking their cue from the sports icon, men today are becoming increasingly enamoured of jewellery. In India, too, celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan and Anil Kapoor are sporting bling. More men are joining in this amazing new trend.
