Editorial
Dear Readers,
“The first thing I noticed as I entered Kokilaben Dhirubhai
Ambani Hospital & Medical Research Institute was the large
space outside the entrance that enables an ambulance to drive
in with ease to drop patients off at the emergency or OPD. The
next was the large waiting area. What impressed me the most
was that the admission counters of fer chairs to the patients’
relatives to complete the admission process. The hospital has
paid attention to details that matter.
At the conference room, Tina Ambani was waiting for me with
the questionnaire I had mailed her earlier. Restless throughout
the inter view, she initially wanted to reply to the questions while
walking me through the hospital. I for tunately was able to
convince her otherwise. She is a lady that has a lot to say and
she does so with a great deal of passion. For the last two years,
the hospital has consumed her. She has traveled regularly from
her Cuffe Parade residence to Andheri to complete this project.
Naturally, along the way, she has had to give up some precious
personal time. As she says, “My son asked me recently when this
project will be completed so I could spend more time with him.”
From design to equipment to the panel of doctors, she wanted
the best. And the best is what she got. Tina Ambani has
succeeded in creating a world class hospital. It is India’s pride. As she says in the interview, she is not in healthcare for its
business potential but to enhance the choice for Indians. No
detail has been too small to receive her attention. Even as I was
leaving, I saw Tina talking to the chairwala painstakingly
explaining to him how to create a more comfor table chair
for visitors.
Her beautiful home tells a similar stor y. On entering, I saw
Kokilaben of fering the morning aarti in the temple on the ground
floor. On the other side a fleet of Ferraris and Mercs make a
statement of wealth and power. Gorgeous pieces of ar t, like the
limited edition Swan Fountain in the picture above, are perfectly
placed to complement each area. Throughout the photoshoot,
Tina wanted to keep it simple. She neither wanted to sport any
brands nor did she want to wear designerwear. And we let her be
and insisted that we wanted her to be at ease and comfortable.
She rummaged out her favourite colours and simple and elegant
ornaments from her rows and rows of accessories and jewellery
cupboards. And the minute the camera lights went on, Tina was
her glamorous self, her past experience as an actress coming to
the fore. My team was ready to clap with delight at her complete
confidence in front of the camera. She gave us some really
fabulous shots in just an hour ! She looks really gorgeous.
We remind you to keep those letters and e-mails coming. We
love to hear from you. |
